Scholarships

UK universities are generally government funded which mostly means limited funds are available for the university to disburse among students as bursaries and scholarships. Still, most universities do have certain awards which are given to students based on their merits as well as performance during the course. Some of the UK universities also have special awards for Indian students besides the ones which individual departments may offer to students coming there to pursue their further studies. Another important source of scholarship is the British Government-sponsored awards like the Chevening Scholarship Commonwealth Scholarship and DFID scholarship. These are extremely competitive and the deadlines come strict way before the course commencement. 

 

English Requirement

We strongly advise all our aspiring students to give the IELTS. This test not only helps reaffirm your English language ability but is also valid for 2 years and can be used when you seek internships in the UK. 

Undergraduate requirement – 6.0 with 5.5 minimum in each component. 

Postgraduate requirement – 6.5 with a 6.0 minimum in each component. 

It is important to note that the English requirement can be up to 7.0 in some Media, English, and Management-related courses. Some Universities take into consideration marks scored in English in XII up to 75% and waive the English requirement, however, this is subject to the University’s decision. 

 

Stay Back Option

The new route will be launched in the summer of 2021, This means that any eligible student who graduates in the summer of 2021 (Academic Year 2020-21) will be able to apply for the route. This includes students who have already started their courses. 

Students can apply under the route after completion of their program and within the validity of their visa to gain exposure.

Academic Requirement

Undergraduate

Most ranked Universities required 80-85% for Engineering, Law, and Management. Some Universities with high rankings for specific subjects might also require a minimum of 90%.IB-38-40 points and A levels – AAA preferred. 

Entry requirements for Humanities, Arts, Social Science, and Computer Science is 70-80%. 

Students who have scored lower than 60% in XII have the option to choose Foundation and Diploma courses which help them get into better-ranked Universities. 

Students going for Undergraduate Studies should have completed or will complete 18 years of age before joining a degree course else they must have a guardian in the UK.

Postgrduate

Most Universities prefer an overall 60% mark in the Undergraduate Degree, whilst some Universities also require a 70-75% minimum for their master’s courses especially the ranked Business Schools.

Some Universities will accept 50-60%, any additional qualification or work experience also helps.

Students with very low percentages can apply for a Pre-Masters course and then progress to a master’s course.

Some Universities ask for a GMAT score between 600-700 for their Finance courses as well as for MBA.

The range of work experience required for an MBA is from 0-4 years. Many Universities accept students without work experience, and they can pursue the MBA directly after graduation.

Most AMBA accredited University requirements will include GMAT+25 years of age+ minimum of 3 years of full-time experience after graduation. At least 1 year of Senior level Management experience is preferred.

 

Part Time Employment In The UK

Students can work up to 20 hours a week during term time and full-time during vacations. 

If you are going to study below degree level (excluding foundation degree students) you will only be able to work 10 hours a week. 

Dependents: Students who enroll for the following courses Post Graduate Certificate, Post Graduation Certificate in Education, Post Graduate Diploma of a Masters degree at a university for which the duration is more than 12 months can sponsor a dependent. The dependents will be allowed to work. 

Students can earn around £ 5 – £ 7 per hour ie. approx £375 – £525 per month during term. 

Students can work full-time during vacations. 

Students could look out for part-time jobs by looking at the local newspapers and job shops as well as the University and College Career Cells where information is available-about vacancies. However, please note that students are not guaranteed part-time employment by the University. 

If you are going to the UK as a student for six months or less, you cannot work or extend your visa further.
